Description Glazed Creosote Treatment (GCT) is a specialized powder designed to safely and effectively modify glazed or third-degree creosote, making it easier to remove through chimney sweeping. GCT’s efficiency depends on various factors, including wood type, moisture content, burning habits, air flow, flue size, and existing build-up. While some cases may show results within a week or two, more challenging build-ups may require regular use and multiple cleanings throughout the heating season. Advantages: Effective on All Types of Creosote: GCT is formulated to work on all degrees of creosote build-up. Prevents Chimney Fires: Helps reduce the risk of chimney fires by modifying dangerous creosote build-up. Reduces Creosote Odours: Minimizes unpleasant creosote smells. Enhanced Cleaning: Chimneys are easier and more thorough to clean when swept. Ready to Use: Convenient and user-friendly. Fast and Easy Application: Simple and quick to apply with immediate action. Directions for Use: Prepare the Area: Protect the working area by clearing furniture and laying protective sheets or cloths. Wear Protective Gear: Ensure you wear suitable protective clothing, chemical goggles, and a respirator mask. Initial Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the chimney using traditional or rotary methods to remove loose debris and soot. Warm the Chimney: Use an electric heater (2 x 3kw) or propane heater (15kw) to heat the chimney to approximately 60°C. This is necessary for effective GCT application. Prepare the Sprayer: Fill a dust sprayer with 2kg of GCT and pressurize it. Seal the Room: Close all doors and windows to the room to contain the treatment. Application: Apply GCT directly into the chimney, not on the fire. Spray up the flue system in the direction of the air flow until no visible signs of creosote remain. Maintain Heat: Keep the heater running while applying GCT to ensure optimal conditions. Check Coverage: Use a torch, mirror, or LED-lit camera to check for adequate coverage. Ensure the entire chimney is coated. Continued Use: Instruct the customer to heat the chimney for a minimum of 4-6 hours daily for two weeks. Re-Sweep the Chimney: Return after two weeks to re-sweep the chimney using an aggressive rotary whip head to remove the modified creosote. Recheck and Repeat: Check the condition of the flue. If tar is still present, repeat the process as necessary. With GCT, you can ensure a safer and cleaner chimney, reducing the risks associated with creosote build-up and making regular maintenance more manageable.
